piece is part of a set commemorating Australian Art of the Twentieth Century which is itself within the premier Masterpieces
in Silver series. Eight of Australia's greatest artists have been showcased in this set with four released in 2006 and 2007.
This 2006 piece commemorates the life and works of Jeffrey Smart with the reverse
featuring his painting 'Keswick Siding'. The reverse also includes the text "JEFFREY SMART KESWICK SIDING"
and the denomination "5 DOLLARS". The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley
portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the
legend
"ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2006."
Jeffrey Smart was born in Adelaide in 1921 where he studied at the South Australian School of Arts and Crafts and the
Adelaide Teachers College.

In the 1940s he began to exhibit his work while also travelling throughout Europe and studying in Paris, Italy, and England.
Upon his return to Australia he settled in Sydney where he worked among other notable Australian artists, taught at the East
Sydney Technical College, and wrote as an art critic. In 1963 he left Australia for Italy where he painted a variety of everyday
urban scenes in the Renaissance perspective.
